Humans[]

Doraddi[]

  • Slaves are war prisoners with no rights.
  • The most visible class boundary in Doraddi society is the boundary between a slave and everybody else.

Kralori[]

  • Slaves are outside the social order and considered by the scholars to be a necessary imperfection.
  • They are higher in status than criminals or wandering swordsmen.
  • The Kralori avoid marrying their slaves.

Lodrili[]

  • The Lodrili slaves are below the Worker Class in status.
  • Their status is regulated by Law.
  • Most slaves are agricultural workers.
  • Slavery can result from war, rebellion or a communal failure to pay taxes

Orlanthi[]

  • Heortling Slaves are Thralls
  • They are usually debt-slaves, criminals or war-prisoners.
  • The children of Thralls are not Thralls and are adopted into the clan that owns the mother.

Malkioni[]

  • SLaves are outside the caste and not subject to their restrictions or protections.

Praxian[]

  • The Morokanth are believed to keep vast herds of slave humans but these are in fact Herdmen
  • Praxian slaves wear leather throngs around their necks.
  • The harshness of life means:
  • They normally do the same work as they did before they were enslaved.
  • Their owners don't oppress them too much.

Torabs[]

  • Slavery dominates and defines Torab society.
  • They believe that Life is Slavery and submit to it.
  • It is governed by Ompalam
  • It was created when Garangordos conquered the Blueskins of Fonrit
  • Most miserable slaves are Blueskins.
  • In Afadjann, there is a philosophical conflict between the Oldsters and the Renewed about how slaves should be treated.
  • The Renewed believe that slaves can marry, buy freedom and have freedom of religion.
  • This has shielded the slaves somewhat from the cruelty of the rulers.
  • The slaves of Kareeshtu, Banamba and Baruling have no such protection.
  • In Kareeshtu, everybody is a slave of somebody else who in turn is also a slave to another.
  • Most slaves are agricultural labourers.
  • Crafters and artisans are semi-free and have more rights.
  • 5% of the population are Slave Soldiers
  • 20% of the population are Yad, slaves who own slaves.
  • Most of the rest, 70%, are Kaddam or chattel slaves.
  • Slaves are attired as their owner provides or occupation requires.
  • Slaves are marked with scars and tattoos.
  • Slaves can be sacrificed.
